Goat Rocks Maibock Beer Release

Goat Rocks Maibock Beer Release

Back in 14th century Germany in the town of Einbeck, the bock beer style was born. The term bock came from southern Bavarians pronouncing the town’s name “Ein bock” which translates to “a billy goat.” The beer was good and the name stuck.

The Maibock

Since then, a few different styles of bock emerged, one of which is Maibock, which is typically served in the month of May. Unlike our Doppleganger Dopplebock we had on last month, the Goat Rocks Maibock is a lighter colored “helles” that has been lagering in the brewery since February. It is brewed with classic pale malts and uses Hallertauer hops, giving this drinkable beer a deep malt backbone with a classic German hop profile. Although it is lighter in color it has full bodied flavor with 30 IBU’s and comes in at 6.9% abv. We named it after the beautiful rugged crags of Goat Rocks in Central Washington that resemble some of the Alps in Bavaria.

Below is a picture of our friend and local publican, Jerry Fecther from Lompoc Brewing. He was horsing around in a beer museum while on a beer research trip we took with him through Germany in 2010 – a fitting photo for the release of our new German beer!
